Please be sure you have your gym uniform and sneakers.

We have Library on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please be sure to have your library card. (It should be in the classroom, hanging on its hook.)

We are researching biomes in Science class. When we have our information, we are using it to make informational websites. We have collaborated in class and online. We used both the Internet and print material for our research. We were able to collect copyright-free images by including "creative commons" in our search strings. To create the websites themselves, we needed to be able to edit a template, design each page, design and post text, link several pages, and insert appropriate images and videos. The first of our pages is live now. Here is the link:

The students in Grade 5 worked very hard on the unit on Structure and Properties of Matter. To show what they know, they created videos. These are the links to watch them!

Each year, we focus on special prayers from the Catholic tradition. During the 5th Grade, our prayers are:

Morning Prayer

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Hearrt of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day In union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, reparation for sins, the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all the Apostles of Prayer, nad in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month.

Grace after Meals

We give thanks for all Your benefits, Almighty God, who lives and reigns forever. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ, HIs only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into Hell, on the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlastin. Amen.

Welcome to Fifth Grade! I will be your teacher for Religion, Math, and Science. We will learn about the importance of worshiping in community as Catholics. We will explore how systems work in the human body, in ecosystems, in earth's systems, and in space systems. We will become experts in place value, operations with fractions, and working with volume. If you have ever thought that Math was boring or hard, prepare to be surprised!
